This book was a reread but altered. I was annoyed. You skipped over things. How do you go from shouting to love in the same paragraph. No the original book was great. You should have left the original alone.April 3, 2025

Well Written Suspenseful Story
You will enjoy this story of a young woman who was told she was to marry in 2 days, finding out on that day that she had married a brusque, inconsiderate man. There is also a mystery and impending danger ever present that makes it difficult to put down. Fortunately, they do fall in love, but the journey to that was enjoyable to read.March 9, 2025

This is the love story of Arthur and Emmeline. The story of Emmeline and Arthur has many twists and turns. Arthur is a cold angry Duke with a tragic past and Emmeline is the sweet kind person to help him heal and love. There is a lot of drama and mystery and a HEA. My favorite book by Emily Barnet so far!
Arthur started out being abrupt, rude and cold and he terrified his servants if he even looked at them . . . except for his butler, Jarvis. I came to love Jarvis! He was always anticipating everything and knew his master so well that he often had already done something before he even gave him an order. Emmeline was exactly what Arthur did not want; a wife that actually wanted to get involved in his life. This story was exciting and there were mysteries to solve and danger! It was so hard to put down. I figured out some of the plot but not all of it. I was not expecting that many people to be behind the threatening letters and the incidents. I love a book like this one that is filled with mysteries and danger during the Regency era.February 21, 2025

Well-Written, Evenly-Paced Story
I am quickly finding Emily Barnet to be one of my favorite regency authors. She has a really nice way of making each story unravel in a way that keeps you hooked. This story was no different. The pace of the book was good and didnt feel rushed at all but there was still plenty to make you want to keep reading. Without giving anything away on the plot, it was well done and wrapped up nicely. I can’t wait to read the extended epilogue. Beautiful Story of Overcoming Tragedy and Adversity
This is a lovely story of facing adversity and finding healing and love along the way. There is plenty of action in the plot, enough that I read the entire story in one sitting because I didn’t want to put it down. The extended epilogue was especially dramatic, yet touching. I thought it a very fitting ending to Arthur and Em’s romantic journey. This is definitely another great read from Emily Barnet. She never disappoints!
