Loved the book
I really liked this book. I was so glad when the villain was unmasked so his evil would stop. I enjoyed both main characters and thought they were so suited to each other. At first I could not get the epilogue but trying over time I finally got it.May 30, 2025

Cursed
Lady Charlotte was being pushed into marriage by a truly disgusting man, as her family’s fortunes had fallen to rock bottom. They were the subject of a great deal of unfortunate gossip in the society pages. While out with her mother, Charlotte say a carriage hit a stack of full and very heavy barrels about to tumble over a man who had not seen them coming. Throwing herself against him, he was knocked out of the way. Once again, Charlotte was in the society pages after “ruining” herself by throwing herself on a Duke. Christopher Arlington, the Duke of Alenwood was a quiet and withdrawn man, who although having no interest in matrimony, decided to marry the young woman to save her reputation. There were many unlikable people in this story, but the main characters were good people who we hope will eventually find a way towards happiness. There is intrigue and ugliness surrounding them, and yet they persevere. This was a well-written, clean romance with obvious plot devices, yet still a cosy and enjoyable read.May 27, 2025

good
This book was good. But I got a little irritated at the main character because it seemed like it was obvious that somebody was staging all these things and he never even thought about it.May 26, 2025

A Clean, Charming Regency
The Duke Deliverance by Martha Barwood is an enjoyable Regency romance that delivers a clean love story, likable characters, and a plot that holds your attention. It’s an easy, comforting read with just enough intrigue to keep things interesting, including a touch of mystery and crime—handled tastefully, without anything too dark or graphic. The pacing is steady, the writing is accessible, and the ending wraps up nicely. While some parts of the plot were predictable, I didn’t mind—it’s the kind of predictability that feels cozy rather than dull. This is a great pick for readers who love clean historical romance with a bit of suspense.May 20, 2025

Waste of time
It could have been a much better story if the fact that he felt guilty wasn’t talked about on every page in the book. It was ridiculous to belabor the point to such extremes. It’s as if the author decided to write a story about guilt and wasn’t able to expand the story past that one, and only one, topic. A waste of time.May 20, 2025

Life’s Twists and Turns
Dark undertones with Christopher’s mourning the loss of Eleanor and his subsequent ‘accidents’. Totally unexpected revelations later in the story; very much unexpected, but masterful writing. A very well-developed story that created many emotional twists and turns.May 15, 2025

typical regency romance
Martha Barwood’s The Duke’s Deliverance is a quintessential Regency romance, delivering all the expected elements of the genre while offering just enough originality to keep readers engaged. The novel follows the classic trope of a marriage of convenience—this time, a union formed to salvage the heroine’s reputation. While the storyline may feel familiar to seasoned romance readers, Barwood’s skillful writing and engaging characters ensure that it remains compelling. The emotional depth of the protagonists, along with the well-paced development of their relationship, makes for an enjoyable read. The chemistry between them builds gradually, keeping the reader invested in their journey. True Love
This was the story of Charlotte and Christopher who end up married to avoid a scandal. It was an easy and interesting story and I enjoyed reading it. I do sometimes wish these stories didn’t always have to have someone get hurt in order to get the the couples together, but it does add drama.May 8, 2025

She saved him
“The Duke’s Deliverance” by Martha Barwood – A sweet, suspenseful Regency read. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts. After saving a duke from danger, Lady Charlotte is unfairly scandalized—leading to a marriage of convenience. Their shared love of plants blossoms into a slow-burn romance amid secrets, danger, and healing from past grief. Murder, betrayal, and redemption keep the plot gripping. A strong message that life is short.May 6, 2025

Beware Of Those Around
By being a good Samaritan Charlotte was forced into marriage. Well at least she had options between two men. So, she considered her options and went with the man she hoped would treat her well. Duke Christopher didn’t want to marry as he was still grieving for his fiancée lost in a horse accident. But after a public scandal he was told he needed to do the right thing by the lady. Finding they both had mutual interest they found they were enjoying each other’s company and was growing closer. However, there was evil around the corner that was watching closely and wasn’t going to let them have a happily ever after. ARC ReviewMay 6, 2025

A Good Story but with Formatting Errors
I enjoyed this well-written story. Lady Charlotte saved Duke Christopher’s life when he was nearly run over by a carriage. Society called her a wanton woman for throwing herself at him, despite the fact she had saved him. Christopher agreed to marry Charlotte to save her reputation. They discover they both loved plants. Christopher grew them and Charlotte drew them. Christopher had been in love before but his fiancée died in a riding accident. He blamed himself and it was difficult for him to get close to Charlotte because of this. When Charlotte was attacked in town, and then seriously injured in another accident, Christopher blamed himself again. Was he really to blame? A jealous Lord caused many problems. There was a murder, an assault and attempted murder before the truth about the ‘accidents’ was revealed. I liked the plot. However, the story was a little difficult to read due to typesetting problems. Frequently, sentences are split and part appears on the next line for no apparent reason. This happens throughout the book and does need to be addressed before final publication.May 4, 2025

When it rains it pours
Cute one. Good plot and characters. Loved the slow burn romance. Easy quick read. Life’s too short Addressed loss, healing from loss, betrayal, murder, plot to inflict pain, rescue that turned scandalous, quick wedding to lessen scandal, kindness, family, loss of fortune, not good suitor pushed by parents, making the scandal pages repeatedly, cursed, romance.
