  This is a wonderful heartfelt story. A Duke tormented by his past, he blames himself for his brother’s accident when they were kids. So he lives in darkness away from society and the ton. But when he meets Lady Amelia. She will bring light and love into his heart and secluded world. . thank you ??

  Amelia and Nathaniel’s Love story
  
  Nathaniel the Duke of Ashbourne was forever haunted by a past experience, lived a secluded and reclusive life from the Ton who for that reason dubbed him, The Beastly Duke. At one point nearby neighbors being intrigued and curious led to Nathaniel meeting Lady Amelia. What started out as an original strangers to friends with delightful characters with a wonderful story including twists and turns throughout having you wanting to turn the page to see what will happen next. It over time developed into a lovely romantic story which ended very happily! I highly recommend reading!!

  Good Story Idea But Not Fully Developed
  
  Taming the Beastly Duke of Ashbourne by Martha Barwood was more like a novella in length. I would have like to see more of the two main characters and have gotten better acquainted with them. The other was the apparent lack of timing in the story. Did they really get married only days later? I know that I have read her books before but this one seemed unfinished. I gave 3 stars because of the lack of details and character development.

  It seems all the characters all are a bit 1 dimensional. For example: It seems Amelia is supposed to have a super positive, happy, joyful disposition, yet I didn’t get that from the dialog. Her personality did not jump out at me. Near the end one of the characters elaborates on her personality which did not shine through in the writing. Ashbourne, he had to keep telling us how dark he felt. But his personality felt bland, if he’s so dark, he should not have to keep telling the reader, it should be clear in the dialog and writing through descriptions and actions. Villain – I don’t really even understand why he has a vendetta against the duke. He doesn’t seem particularly enamored by Amelia. -he seemed 1 dimensional – he acts tough, then is threatened by hero, he appears cowed and fearful – then the next moment he’s spouting off his own threats – then acts scared again – then threatening and saying ridiculous stuff. – then a stupid bet at whites – final confrontation kind of all ridiculous- acted same as villain in previous book in series. To improve this story I needed to see the people’s personalities and feel them in the dialog. But I didn’t. I’m not a writer, so I can’t even say what’s fully missing, but the characters all felt simple, cookie-cutter. The plot was fairly good, I feel the author has a lot of potential, but needs to develop the characters to be more real and have different personalities that show through in the dialog and actions. Change up the villain or don’t even have a villain. Obvious Errors: 1st dance Lady Amelia – country dance claimed by the duke, but when they were dancing Amelia mentioned they were dancing the quadrille – oops Lady Charlotte was to dance the quadrille with the Duke At one point in the end Lord Stanton was mentioned when it should have been the villain. Annoying Catch phrases: …and the like. …or the like. Flaring eyes – Flaring sounds angry. If you just want a clean read it was fine

  Sweet clean romance
  
  Nathaniel has felt guilty over his brother’s accident when they were children, and often has nightmares about the incident. He almost seems to think he can’t be happy because of the limp his brother now has, even though his brother is doing well and doesn’t worry about it. Nathaniel has acquired the nickname of The Beastly Duke because of his brooding manner. When he meets Amelia, she brings some light into his life. He starts to rethink his behavior and isolation as Amelia endeavors to help him be accepted by the ton. Of course, there is a villain who tries to thwart their relationship. I liked Amelia’s father very much. He is more concerned with how his daughter feels about a man and solely concerned with the man’s character rather than how much money the man has and his title. This is a clean, sweet romance.

  Alls well that ends well.
  
  Amelia and Nathanial’s love story doesn’t end. They marry in time and are content. The obstical to attaining happiness is overcome when Nathanial realizes he loves her and takes action to marry her. A very satisfactory read.

  I enjoyed the story. The author is improving with each book! Could have developed the Duke’s manly character a bit stronger. And the Wilcox character as the family nemesis could have been fleshed out and finished with more power. But overall an enjoyable story.

  The Heart Knows What It Wants
  
  The Duke of Ashbourne does not socialize and due to his dark side, he is considered the beastly duke. Due to an incident that happened in his youth with his brother he blames himself and doesn’t believe he deserves to be happy. Lady Amelia upon meeting him knows of his reputation but she can’t help the pull she feels towards him, and she considers it her duty to help him with his image. They make an agreement to court to help his image in society but there is one that very rude and considers himself above and deems to cause problems. ARC Review

  Great book. It was a quick read. It was a page turner and the suspense was romance intense. I was on the verge of my seat and I couldn’t put it down. They couldn’t fight the temptation anymore as they were drawn together like Fire and Water. They couldn’t fight their feelings any longer.   Not sure why this Duke was considered beastly. He is just a recluse and does not enjoy society. Hero: Nathaniel, Duke of Ashbourne, suffering from guilt that almost killed his younger brother. He is a recluse and does not go to London for the season. He is handsome, young and wealthy. Heroine: Amelia, a ray of sunshine, Happy and curious about her reclusive neighbor. They h and H meet at their estate briefly an Hero is intrigued by h. His brother w6ho visits the6 estate every ye6ar has decided to enjoy the season so Nathaniel decides to join him as well. Ofcourse his true motivation is to be with Amelia. They concoct a plan of fake courtship, so she can help him ease into society and prove that his beastly moniker is false. Of course there’s a villain. Between all this angst, the h and H start falling in love an Nathaniel starts healing and letting go of his past guilt. A decent read.

  Loved the Storm Scene!
  
  One of my favorite scenes was right at the beginning when a storm kept Amelia and her sister at the Beastly Duke’s manor overnight. The brief encounter between Nathanial and Amelia was so poignant. It let the reader know for sure that there was a special connection between them already. The book sort of lagged in the middle to me before getting more exciting at the end. Lord Wilcox was a complete cad! Nathanial’s brother was so sweet and I was so glad when he too found love! The ending was well done! Wilcox’s plan was foiled and with Amelia’s love and presence, finally Nathanial’s nightmares stopped.

  The Duke of Ashbourne could not get over the guilt when his younger brother almost drowned. He should have been watching him. His brother, though he lived, was left with a limp. Ever since the incident the Duke was suffering from terrible nightmares. He kept to himself avoiding everyone.. Lady Amelia offered to assist the Duke back into society. Lord Wilcox was a self-serving, wicked man trying to destroy the Duke’s credibility. This is a well written and enjoyable love story with a few surprises.

  Pleasant surprise
  
  This is the first book that I have read by this particular author, and I was pleasantly surprised. I have been in a book slump, and was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of this book. I was nervous going in due to the aforementioned book slump, and the genre, but I really enjoyed this book. I liked that the main characters had depth; they were not 100% perfect. The supporting characters were fleshed out. I look forward to seeing what other books this author comes out with.
