A Vision Shared: a Seeing Woman and a Blind Duke

This lovely Regency romance features two protagonists, each struggling with disabling challenges. For the heroine, they are centered on the cruel and despicable guardian who controls her fate, a brute who enjoys his power over her. This leaves life’s options far distant from the desires and dreams of her strong intellect and kind, gentle heart, replacing them with fear. The challenges to the hero are internal rather than her external ones. A prominent Duke, handsome of face and resplendent in bearing, he has self-identified as defined far more by his adult-onset blindness than by the sum of his many positives attributes, including vast wealth and a kind heart to match. Their struggles, both with inner negative voices and a series of situations fraught with varying degrees of danger, make for realistic, compelling reading. Will the first tenuous sparks of – could it be love? – be nurtured into a blazing fire; or will the ill winds of challenges snuff out the sparks before they have a chance This is a beautiful story which celebrates family, life-long friendships, and human decency.

    Great idea but Poorly Written

When one cannot consistently describe the hero as having green eyes or blue, there is a problem. I was distracted by the historical inaccuracies, especially about a young, single woman wandering around unchaperoned in this time period. Also, the main characters were sitting, then standing, then sitting again. It was a morning scene and then evening with no explanation, etc. It is weak writing to explain everything going on in a story, information has to unfold, however, I found this lack of editing to be jarring. Just the casual way the villain spoke to a Duke is ridiculous. Glaring inaccuracies and unbelievable actions of characters in a period piece romantic novel were too distracting to allow enjoyment of the story. I felt like this book must have been written using AI or something.

Not my favorite book in this series

The writing style of this book was different than the previous books in this series. The descriptions of everything were a little wordy. I finally started scanning and skipping entire sections. I was also confused about the duke’s blindness. It seemed like sometimes he could see fairly clearly and sometimes everything was foggy. There were a few other inconsistencies in the story as well. I’ve enjoyed this series but this book was not my favorite.

Finally there’s little left and he sees her as his way out. He basically wants to sell her by marrying her off for money. She is lonely and unhappy, she meets the duke that lives nearby and who was blinded in a riding accident, who feels unworthy due to his blindness. They build a connection in there pain, but will it lead anywhere? I suggest you get this books to see if they are able to overcome their trials and have a happily ever after. Love is blind

I adore the storyline in this book but have to mention several errors that caught my eye and were confusing to me. In the beginning Adian’s eye were the palest blue, then somehow turn green in the next chapters? Her hair was chestnut brown and turned golden? Often times it was morning and then night time without explaining the time lapse? The descriptions were beautiful, scenic and memorable. The feelings each character felt was heartfelt but too excessive in my opinion. The plot was good but the villain doesn’t get his justice, that is disappointing.

This story was rather vapid. No real depth to it. The story was basically about a couple that met by accident. They fell in love and got married. The man in the story was partially blind. cute but generic

this book was very cute and had a little bit of drama. The descriptions and wording were eloquent, and the descriptions of Adrian’s feelings, and Annabell feelings were really good, but Adrian being blind in the way that she worded, it made no sense because it kept saying that he could see her hair falling out of her bonnet, and he could see her smile, and I was very confused. By the way she talked about that he could see sometimes it was about how he could see things that a blind man couldn’t, even if they said his eyesight was blurry, but other than that it was a cute story, and written, very eloquently

    Did anyone edit this book?

This was so bad it was distracting. The concept is the Duke is blind, seeing only light, blurs of color and shadows (like me without my glasses). But the author apparently forgot that part as there are numerous occasions where the Duke could see things. Also numerous plot inconsistencies. I read books like this to relax and take a vacation from my stressful job, etc. This was not relaxing. Very irritating instead. Also, as others noted, the descriptions of things were way too flowery and verbose.

    Sorry not good at all

A clean story. Sadly this is not good. The plot seems to go no where and the descriptions seem a bit too much. There are lots of questions. Why did the Duke come off his horse? Every one is screaming warnings but he doesn’t see anything and the horse is throwing him. Odd, we never know why. Moving on to incorrect etiquette. Annabelle goes about on her own – her uncle is correct that she ought to have a chaperone when out and about. Henry is a Lord, but his mother is referred to as ‘Mrs’ – almost certainly she is a Lady. Oswald is totally disrespectful to Adrian, who is a Duke. Now although blind Adrian is still very powerful – I just do not see Oswald being so rude. Lord Spencer is arrested for assaulting someone, who is not hurt ( why ‘of course’?). As a Lord it would be more challenging for him to be arrested. ‘Put away’ sounds a bit too modern. Lastly there is the editing which is awful. It is never explained how he knew the girl was Miss Ludlow. Chapter 4 describes Patches coat in the moonlight, yet later the sun is setting. Later on Adrian is walking beside Henry who is on a horse, Henry dismounts and so does Adrian – he was not on a horse! All in all not a very good story and for me written in a very simplistic style.

    Blind or not?

This book was so confusing. The Duke certainly saw a lot of things for being visually impaired. The book needed to give a much better description of what his vision impairment truly was. Was it only distance? Was it only details? Half the time it seemed as if he had decent sight. It made it hard to be absorbed into the story.

    Frustrating Inconsistencies

I really wanted to like this book but I am halfway through it and it’s been difficult to enjoy. My first impression was that the author never met an adjective they didn’t like (each scene contains a thesaurus worth of descriptions), but I took that as a writing style not to my usual taste and I adapted to it. Unfortunately, the plot has so many inconsistencies it is frustrating to read. Most of these have to do with his vision. He is supposed to only be able to see vague shapes in a fog and light vs darkness. However he focuses on intricate carpet patterns and book titles. One moment he bemoans not being able to see faces, the next he’s gazing at the curls brushing her cheek. Other plot points are changeable as well, like when she’s walking home in moonlight and a few minutes later the sun starts to set. Or the time he’s taking a walk because he’s afraid of riding since his accident and then descends from a previously nonexistent horse. I wanted to enjoy this book but have been stopping every few minutes to mark mistakes on my Kindle. I am considering jumping to the end to put myself out of my misery.

there was no substance to this book

In general, I do not normally write negative reviews of books. However this book was largely overwrought descriptions of the characters feelings with no plot development what so ever. The consequences of the partial blindness of the Duke were very inconsistent; his vision was sometimes just a blur and at other times (conveniently for the plot) his ability to recognize objects and navigate his day to day life were apparently not impacted at all. Villains are introduced, but any conflict just disappears. If you’ve read the plot summary don’t bother reading this one.

I loved this story. It was about a young woman, Annabelle Ludlow, and Adrian Westfield, Duke of Thornwood, rescuing each other. Adrian had fallen from his horse, hitting his head, resulting in his blindness. He had moved yo country estate and thought no one would marry a blind man. Annabelle and the Duke met while walking in a meadow. His dog Patches ran to Annabelle, and Annabelle responded with welcomed laughter and affection. Adrian and Annabelle met repeatedly and became friends talking about books and other things they both enjoyed. She was not put off by his blindness and never made it an issue. Instead, Annabelle noticed his kind and sweet heart. Then Adrian rescued her when he heard her bawling in the meadow bec her mean greedy uncle was forcing her to be betrothal to a mean, selfish, and ugly old man. I didn’t like her uncle bec of the way he treated her. It was hard for me to get past his mean attitude. I loved the attraction of a young woman meeting a Duke in the meadow. Part of the story line was missing.

The author dealt with the loss of the Duke’s sight with empathy and understandable soul searching by the Duke. However, many parts of the story line were lost or dropped. Why did Annabelle’s uncle just take off when he had received assurances from the Duke that he would take care of the broken engagement fallout? Why didn’t the Lord who suffered the broken engagement ask the Duke for recompense? And most of all, why didn’t the Duke hire security to insure that he and Annabelle were safe? The epilogue tried to tie up too many loose ends in a hurry and left the reader confused.

A very sweet story. Though I wouldn’t call it an arranged marriage, more of a marriage of convenience-to in love. Annabelle and Adrian share a deep love of literature and nature, they meet in the meadows between their houses and for a delightful friendship. Annabelle sees Adrian for the man he truly is, not just for his dukedom, or his blindness. A sweet story of the ups and downs of new relationships, our own personal shortcomings, gossip, and pure joy that lies in friends who are family. **I do feel as if some of the same phrases were used over and over, and I eventually eye rolled when I saw them (so sorry Sally), however the point of the story and the love that came through between the main characters made the book with reading. Oswald and Lord Spencer were both cads that got what they deserved in the end. Henry was such a good friend to Adrian so his connection with Penelope was perfect! What is true vision?

When Annabelle was orphaned, her evil, cruel uncle Oswald became her guardian. His hobbies are drinking, gambling, and making Annabelle’s life miserable. He arranges her marriage to an elderly, equally cruel and ill tempered business partner, without consulting her. Adrian was partially blinded in an accident and has become a recluse due to the Ton’s negative , judgemental reaction to any disability. Annabelle is unconventional by Ton standards, free spirited, and enjoys spending her days in the meadows where her family’s land and Adrian’s share a border. When they meet, they discover that they have much in common, and a friendship develops, which turns into love. Adrian’s best friend Henry, and Annabelle’s best friend Penelope meet and fall in love, so there is a bonus romance. Exciting story, as their relationship grows despite, or maybe because of the obstacles posed by Society and Oswald. I only gave it four stars, because of some continuity issues. There are confusing inconsistencies regarding how much vision Adrian retains. At times it says he can only perceive outlines and shadows, but at other times he is apparently able to to see people’s facial expressions, or is said to be studying the pattern in the carpet. Also, his eyes were described as sapphire blue, but later were emerald green.

A great story, but could use more editing

I liked the premise of this story very much. It was only held back, in my opinion, by a lack of final editing. There were a few continuity errors and typos that could have been caught with another pass by a good editor. None of these errors kept me from enjoying the story. This book is clean and sweet stand alone story with a happy ending.

They his creativity can out because of his wife’s love to have everyone looking and admiring his fantastic work. It might have been an arranged marriage but look how this marriage turned out.

    Blind love

Very well written by this author. Full of emotions, romance, love, a marriage of convenience, has strong characters along with the nasty ones. Annabelle is supposed to marry a man who she really does want to. Adrian is blind and having issues dealing with it. They both have different issues but are able to help each other. Together they find true love and find their happily ever after. Another good book to read having everything you need. Would recommend to others. I am an ARC and leave this unbiased, honest review.

    Lovely

A young man loses his sight and must adjust to life without it. Given the time period of this story, the weight of not being accepted was by far incredibly intense. Thus this story is a look at how the duke worked through the anguish, loss and came out on the other side. A lovely story from beginning to end. Calm but deeply moving and wonderfully crafted.

Very nice read about a duke, blinded due to a horse accident, but tried hard not to become angry or depressed over it as he navigates his new situation. He meets Annabelle while out walking with his dog Patches and over I e looks forward to their interactions. Meanwhile trouble is brew with her guardian and the duke suggests a marriage of convenience. Trouble still continues brewing until finally all is overcome and they find their hea together
